TAKE THE PLEDGE

Civil Dialogue Pledge

Make a commitment to civil dialogue. Taking this pledge means engaging in conversations with respect and empathy. You promise that:

"I will listen first to understand, before being understood. I will engage in conversation with curiosity and learning mindset, not with the intent to change someone's mind.

I will speak from my personal lived experience, using "I" statements and share why an issue is important to me, and how it's impacting me.

When I disagree with someone's point of view, instead of walking away or saying "you're wrong!" I will lean in with curiosity and say "tell me more."

Before leaving a conversation, I will thank the other person for their perspective and share my thoughts on where we have common ground."
